How can I transfer files to my web site ? - Top

 

All files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). You will can go and download the necessary FTP software from our Member's Library after your account has been activated. Internet providers such as AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy usually have a built-in FTP interface. Try keyword or goword FTP.

Can I have multiple domains point to my web space ? - Top

 

Yes. We can point as many domains as you need to your virtual hosting account. All domains will be linked to the main root of your account. We cannot link domains to certain subdirectories on your virtual web hosting account. Please note that we charge a one-time only fee of USD $75 per additional domain that you want us to include in our name servers linking to your web account.

Do you have FTP software available for download ? - Top

 

Yes. They are in our Member's Library section. Once you have become a customer, we will forward the login information to you via email.

How do I get my page to load automatically ? - Top

 

You must name your main loading file "index.html". Be sure to name everything in lowercase, not "INDEX.HTML" . Also, this file must be located in your root directory, which is the first directory you see when you access the web server via ftp.

What file names and extensions are acceptable ? - Top

 

There are generally no restrictions to file names and/or file extensions. However, please keep in mind that our machines are case sensitive. This means that if you upload your files with upper case letters in them, then your HTML's references must also match the case. The easiest way would be to keep everything in lower case. Spaces and special control characters are generally not a good idea.

How do I update my web pages ? - Top

 

You can literally create and maintain your web pages, images, and scripts locally and upload them to the web server at your leisure via FTP. You can overwrite existing files or transfer a new file.

What is the function of my "cgi-bin" directory ? - Top

 

This directory allows you to execute a CGI script written in Perl, or Unix Shell. Perl and shell programs are self-compiling and can be utilized immediately after transfer to this directory / folder. Please note that the cgi-bin directory will only be fully valid after your domain name is working.

How can I simulate sub-websites within my account ? - Top

 

To simulate a sub-web site, you have to create a new directory (or folder to MAC users) and then upload the main loading page (index.html). You can setup as many sub-web sites as you wish. Innovative Minds only charges additional fees if you need more space than you initially ordered.

How can I use more than one domain name ? - Top

 

We can have several domain names point to your root directory. However, we cannot point additional domain names to specific sub-directories. To add a domain name to your account just send e-mail to info@innovativeminds.com and let us know what domain name(s) you want us to create zone file(s) for on our name servers. There is a one-time configuration charge of USD $75 for each additional domain that you want us to link to your virtual web hosting account.

When will I be able to reach my site using the domain name ? - Top

 

Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 3 to 5 working days before it is active world-wide. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This process is called propagation. Even if it should take longer than expected, there is (unfortunately) nothing Innovative Minds could do to actually expedite this process.

How do I announce my site ? - Top

 

Currently we will register your web site to nine major search engines just for joining up. If you prefer to do it yourself then we recommend that you register your web site with the major search engines beginning with Yahoo, WebCrawler, Lycos, and AltaVista.

Look for an "add URL" option at each of these sites as well as links to other search engines. Currently, there is no charge to register with the
aforementioned search engines. If desired, you can register with a site called, Submit-it!. This site allows you to enter your information one time and then submit to the many of the major search engines.

How can I change my main POP e-mail account name? - Top

 

You can't. The way our new mail server is structured forces us to assign your main POP e-mail account in the username@yourdomain.com format. There is no way for us to change this account into something more meaningful. However, you don't have to advertise this account since you can use one of your forwarding account names as an alias for your POP e-mail account. If you configure PEGASUS or EUDORA or any other advanced e-mail manager with a correct "alias" reply address nobody but you will ever see your "real" POP account address.

Does Innovative Minds support REAL AUDIO? - Top

 

Yes, we do support the streaming http version of REAL AUDIO©. An RA server software would normally cost you at least US $295 - but as a customer with us, the use of streaming http Real Audio on our servers are free!

Yes, we fully support FrontPage 2000 extensions on the ONE PLAN PLUS. When you order your package you choose whether you want the FrontPage extensions installed on your account or not.
